Our Story
Paws2Health Rehab Centre was established as a result of a heartbreaking personal experience we had with our 9 year old blue English Staffordshire Bullterrier, Murray. Murray suffered a fibrocartilaginous embolism (FCE), otherwise known as a spinal stroke. In a matter of minutes, Murray had lost the use of both hind legs.
After several days in hospital, Murray underwent a cat scan and an MRI which confirmed the worst. Sadly, it was explained that there was no cure but with love, support and rehabilitation, there was a strong chance that Murray would recover the use of his limbs.
The surgeon that cared for Murray at the hospital advised us to seek out a rehabilitation centre and undergo hydrotherapy, massage and laser treatment which would all aid in his recovery.
For the next 6 months, we travelled 45 minutes each way to the closest hydrotherapy centre and pleasingly with hydrotherapy and laser treatment, coupled with love and pampering, our amazing Murray regained the use of both legs with only a minor deficit to his left limb. Within a few months, Murray returned to his daily walks with the aid of a special boot to protect his paw.
First hand, we saw how hydrotherapy improves mobility, strengthens muscles and recovers quality of life. Without hydrotherapy, Murray would never have been able to return to his daily walks. Our experience with Murray along with the lack of hydrotherapy centres in the western suburbs of Brisbane is how Paws 2 Health was born with a solemn promise to all clients to provide love and compassion to pets in need.
